As of today, there are nine flowers open with five buds on the way. Looks like the venerable "Super Ghost" is gearing up for quite a show! If you have the means at all to get to the Naples, Florida area, this is well worth the time and effort.

How wonderful! Thanks for sharing. Any idea what the tree on which the orchid plant grows is?
I am hosting the 38th Festival of the Trees (http://festivalofthetrees.wordpress.com) which is due Aug 1st and would love to include a link to this post - if you have a recent picture of the ghost orchids with the tree, do consider adding it to your site.
thank you.
Ros, it is found in a large bald cypress tree...the trunk of it is visible behind the orchid in the post...its roots wrap around the bark of the tree, holding the orchid in place.

That's a gorgeous species. I had not heard of it before. Great shots.
We have only about twenty species here in Ontario, but I was lucky to run into two Lady Slipper species this spring ( in a mosquito infested bog)
I posted a short piece on it here.
